Age Co Personal Alarms have been supporting older adults for over 30 years and was previously known as Age UK Personal Alarms.
The life-saving alarm service was known as Age UK Personal Alarms and was run by Aid-Call Ltd until 2016. The alarm monitoring service was acquired from Age UK by AXA PPP healthcare in 2016 as part of AXA's commitment to help older people maintain their independence and dignity in their own homes.
Tom Wright, Chief Executive of Age UK at the time, said: “We are delighted that AXA PPP healthcare is taking on ownership of Aid-Call Limited and firmly believe this is in the best interests of both today’s and tomorrow’s users of the Age UK Personal Alarm. Age UK’s trading arm will continue to be involved for the foreseeable future and, in our fast changing technological world, we think it makes a lot of sense for us to be partnering on the personal alarm with such a major company as AXA PPP healthcare, with its impressive global reach."
Although the company name was changed from Aid-Call in 2017, the personal alarm service continued to be monitored by the same staff at the Emergency Resolution Centre in Ashburton, Devon. The team continued to provide the Age UK Personal Alarm Service and this commitment and support remains unchanged to this day.
Under Taking Care, the personal alarm service has grown and has added two more UK-based Emergency Resolution Centres that provide a 24/7 service for over 70,000 customers nationwide.
Age Co has become the new name for Age UK's products and services that help older people enjoy financial security and live independently. The Age UK Personal Alarm Service adopted the Age Co name in 2020.
